New Business
Police Dept.
Michael Joly is appearing at this meeting asking that his son, John Joly, who is currently a police officer in Atlanta, Georgia be allowed to take the upcoming Police Officer exam due to be held on December 4, 2004. The residency requirement on the announcement for exam #68-535 clearly states that a candidate must live in Cayuga county or the six contiguous counties for 30 days prior to the date of the written exam. The Commission rules concur with this statement. Discussion held and the commission agreed to disapprove Mr. Joly’s application for this exam.
School District
A brief discussion was held about the change at the school district in computer systems that provide the current MSD 426 for all changes to the non- instructional school personnel. The Commission agreed to allow the school to change the form used to report these changes. The Commission also stated that the change slips due to the civil service office should be hand written or typed if this situation should arise again.
Old Business
Public Works Dept.
Discussion continued about the minimum qualifications for the announcement for the position of Director of Recreation. Comm. Camardo again stated his opinion that supervision experience should be stressed in the qualifications as the position is one of directorship over the recreation employees. Motion made by Comm. Brennan that the minimum qualifications remain as on the current spec for the title. Comm.Welch seconded the motion. Comm. Camardo not in agreement and the motion carried 2-1.
A memo is to be sent to Corporation Counsel and the City Manager requesting to know the status of the letter to be sent to the candidate on the part time parking meter attendant eligible list who the Police Chief has asked to be removed from the list. Memos were sent to both Tom Leone, Corporation Counsel and the Manager on Sept. 8th and on October 26th to verify this situation. As of November 4th no answer from either has come to this Commission. The memo is to state that in the future an answer will be expected to be more timely.
